Hollywood Proves The 1980s Are As Popular As Ever

If you’re like us, you already believe that the 1980s was the best decade in history. However even though this may seem like a bias, the fact that TV and Film companies keep pumping out 80s themed projects just shows that the 1980s are as popular as ever.

Think about it, when was the last time you heard of a project from the 1990s or any other decade really for that matter? Yes they are out there, but it seems like every time Hollywood execs need a hit of nostalgia they look back at the glorious 80s for inspiration. Do you believe this is just a coincidence, or was the 1980s really just the best decade ever?

Here are some of Hollywood’s latest projects, let us know what you think!

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

This remake of the blockbuster ghostbusters franchise features Paul Rudd, and also Bill Murray and Dan Aykroid. It’s about a single mom and her two kids, and they discover a secret legacy that their grandfather left behind connected to the Ghostbusters. Again anyone who appreciated the original movies will find this tale to be a refreshing throwback!

Cobra Kai

Anyone who grew up in the 1980s remembers “The Karate Kid”, and Cobra Kai picks up years later where the iconic characters Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) have built very different lives since their legendary bout at a 1984 Karate Tournament.

Originally a series on YouTube, the popularity of Cobra Kai made Netflix pick it up and now it has a cult following on the platform. Again anyone who grew up in the 1980s will love the storyline, and it’s just great to see another 80s storyline come back to life.

Stranger Things

One of the most popular series on Netflix is “Stranger Things”. This series follows a group of kids as they navigate the strange happenings in their town and battle against supernatural forces.

The series takes place in the 1980s in a fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana and it is loaded with nostalgic references and fashion that really adds to the storyline. Again they could’ve used any other decade for the storyline of the show, but they picked the 1980s, and again proving the 80s are alive and well!

Adam Eats The 80’s

A new show that premiers at the end of this month on the History Channel is called “Adam Eats The 80’s”, and it basically follows host Adam Richman as he eats and reminisces food from the 1980s.

Now at this point we only know what the show is about, but again why the 1980s? I’m sure there was great food in the 1970s or the 1990s, but again TV Execs chose the 1980s as the decade to focus on. Is this just a coincidence? We don’t think so.

Again this is just a few of the projects currently out there that features 80s nostalgia. There are a ton more, but the point of this article was to illustrate that it seems the 1980s is the go-to decade when it comes to storytelling these days. But why is that?

Perhaps it was the fashion, or maybe the music. Or perhaps it was really the last time life was simple, a time before the internet and social media. There’s almost a feeling of lost innocence to the 1980s, but regardless of the reason, it’s just amazing that even decades later we still look back on the 1980s with such fondness and reverence.
