What 80’s Fashion Trends Are Still Around Today?

Wayfarers

For those of us who were teens and young adults during the 1980s, the fashion then is something that we usually remember with a rather embarrassed grin. After all, the fads back then included pastel suits and huge shoulder pads.

But then again, fashion trends are unpredictable, and sometimes old styles do make a comeback. This may be because enough time has passed that newer generations are starting to think of it as retro. Or maybe some designers lack imagination and creativity so they incorporate 80s styles because they can’t think of anything else.

Whatever the reason may be, here are some 80s fashions which you can still see today:

Ray-Ban Aviators and Wayfarers

If there was an 80s fad that undoubtedly stood the test of time, then it would be Ray-Ban Sunglasses. These sunglasses were born in the 1930s, and they were also popular in the 60s. But it was Tom Cruise and Top Gun which really boosted sales all over the world. This is one design which will never really become old and obsolete. It’s a classic.

The same can be said to a lesser degree about the Wayfarers. Its 80s popularity was again attributable to Tom Cruise and his movie Risky Business. It was used in so many movies and TV shows (such as Miami Vice) that it was the sunglasses of the decade. And you can still find them today.

Members Only Jacket

This brand was relaunched backed in the early 2000s, and now you can still see it here and there. You see them in the movies, being worn by the likes of Rihanna and Justin Bieber, and even on your favorite TV shows. Now it’s called a classic, even iconic in design. The Members Only Jacket is a timeless style, and we are glad to see that it is still popular today.

The 80s Miniskirt

This version of the mini skirt is tight and very short indeed. This trend has never really gone away, which is why you have so many upskirt pictures online. If you wear one, try to sit with it first and see that it doesn’t go past your mid-thigh. But if you don’t care, guys won’t mind either!

Leg Warmers

This trend was part of the 80s workout fads, but now they’ve been back for quite a while. Tight pants and skinny jeans are rocking the trends, and it was only natural that leg warmers join in the fun. But if you do wear them, please try to avoid bright metallic colors. Stick to black or neutral colors, with perhaps a hint of shine. Though I guess if you are bold, we dare you to bring the neon versions back.

People always like a hint of color, and nowadays neon is becoming more and more popular. But if you try this trend, just make sure you don’t go overboard. A neon sweater is fine, but don’t go with the all neon look.

I’m pretty sure that there are other 80s trends which are still a hit today. This is especially true among the rebels, the ones who don’t care if fingerless gloves or huge earrings are not exactly in.
