80s Classic The Karate Kid Turns 30

The 80's Blog Jan 22, 2014

For those of you who grew up in the 80s it is pretty amazing how time flies as we celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the debut of the epic movie that was “The Karate Kid” starring Ralph Macchio!

This legendary movie was chalked full of great 80’s fashion and really launched Ralph Macchio into the stratosphere of movie icon of the 80s.

Who doesn’t remember Mr. Miyagi’s famous “Wax On, Wax Off” training, or the suspenseful karate tournament where Daniel-San defeats his Goliath of an adversary with his infamous “crane kick”?

Though the sequels to the movie definitely fell short, The Karate Kid is indeed one of the timeless classic movies that everyone remembers from the 80s. Here is one of the great highlights of the movie (with great music to boot)!

In honor of the 30 years since the debut that made him a star, Ralph Macchio appeared on Fox and Friends to promote his latest cause with Post Shredded Wheat to help add more “extreme” games to the National Senior Games to ramp things up a bit in 2014. The games are eligible to only those who are 50 years of age and older.

Some of the new additions will include Judo, Power-Walking, Fencing, Soccer, and Weight Lifting to name just a few. Here is Ralph Macchio on the show playing Ping Pong with hosts Brian Kilmeade, Steve Doocy, and Elizabeth Hasselbeck to promote the cause.

It is crazy to believe that Ralph Macchio is now 52 and that this epic movie is already 30 years old! It seems that the years have been good to Ralph as most would agree he looks great for someone in his 50s.

Perhaps all those years of karate has kept him looking youthful. 🙂 So happy 30th birthday Daniel-San, you were definitely one of the things that made the 80’s the greatest decade ever!
