In a fitting ending to 2020, eighties fashion and music icon Cyndi Lauper closed out the year with a widely panned New Year’s Eve performance at Dick Clark’s New Years’ Rockin Eve. The 67 year old “True Colors” singer and eighties legend performed both “True Colors” and her new song “Hope” which she had debuted earlier in the year.
While she had given a highly optimistic and hopeful speech about 2021, that was quickly overshadowed by her awkward performance that quickly went viral.
“2020 can’t get any worse, there’s just one hour left.”

Perhaps the only person that left 2020 better because of Cyndi’s performance was Mariah Carey, who previously had held the record for most disastrous New Years Eve performance in 2016 where she tried to make her way through some apparent technical errors.
Regardless of the misstep, the Cyndi Lauper we know will bounce back and she remains one of our fondest memories of the great decade that was the Eighties. Here’s to hoping that we leave that performance as well as 2020 behind and hope that 2021 is much better!
